PM Orders Agencies to Track Militant Attack Killing 5 Rangers
Five rangers were killed in a militant attack at a checkpoint in Narathiwat's Rangae district on July 23, prompting the Prime Minister to order all security agencies to track down the attackers.
At 9:45 a.m. on July 23, 2569, Prime Minister Anuthachai Charnweerakul addressed the attack on rangers at the Bukesami checkpoint in Tangyongmas subdistrict, Rangae district, Narathiwat province, which killed five officers and wounded a 10-year-old child. When asked whether he would visit the area and injured victims in person, the PM said he was closely monitoring the situation. He stated that since the previous night of July 22, he had already issued orders to all agencies including the military, police, and Interior Ministry. When pressed again on whether he would visit the area given the escalating attacks, the Prime Minister refused to answer but stressed that he had already issued all necessary instructions. The incident involved approximately 10 gunmen armed with grenades, pipe bombs, and M16 and AK-47 rifles in two attack teams, and authorities subsequently discovered a suspicious pickup truck destroyed by fire in nearby Srisakhon district.
