Politician Presses Parliament Speaker on Sakdiyam Stock Case
Politician Prasit Wattharasindhul challenged Parliament Speaker Sophon Sarumlai to forward a petition accusing the anti-corruption commission of mishandling Sakdiyam Chidchob's stock concealment case to court, suggesting the speaker may be
On July 15, 2025, Prasit Wattharasindhul posted on Facebook asking whether Parliament Speaker Sophon Sarumlai has decided to submit the petition regarding Sakdiyam Chidchob's concealed stock case to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) onward to court, or whether he will block the matter from reaching the judiciary. Over 140 opposition MPs and senators submitted the petition on June 5, invoking constitutional article 236 to accuse the NACC of dereliction of duty when it dismissed Sakdiyam's case, citing flawed investigation procedures including failure to thoroughly examine asset records and neglect of conflict-of-interest findings under the NACC's constitution.
Prasit emphasized that while the constitution does not require the speaker to determine guilt or innocence, the speaker has a constitutional duty to forward the petition to the Supreme Court president if there are reasonable grounds for suspicion. He noted that when a similar petition concerning gold bribery was filed earlier in 2025, the then-acting parliament speaker took fewer than 41 days to decide. With 40 days now elapsed, Prasit questioned whether Sophon has made a decision to move the case forward or is merely trying to shield an important figure in the current regime.
Prasit expressed hope that the speaker's performance report on July 16 will announce that the petition has been formally approved and forwarded to the Supreme Court, allowing the constitutional investigation mechanism to proceed properly.
