PM Denies Lax Rules, Blames Officials in Local Exam Fraud Crackdown
28 Jul Khaosod

At 9:55 a.m. on July 28, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister arrived at the Interior Ministry for discussions with senior ministry leadership. He said today's meeting was an informal gathering held near the Grand Palace after ministry executives signed a blessing petition there. Anutin stated he will carve out time to visit the Interior Ministry at least twice a week, even while working at Government House or elsewhere, to improve public services.

When asked if rules had been loosened in recent times, Anutin denied this, saying the system and regulations themselves remain firm but officials applying them have acted dishonestly. He attributed problems to people rather than procedures, noting that appointees were selected for their knowledge and integrity, but something has gone wrong that must be corrected.

On whether his increased oversight targets fraud in local exams or local power brokers, Anutin said the latter involves ordinary citizens acting as influential figures whom the government must address—a separate matter requiring coordination with provincial authorities, police, military, and security agencies.

When asked if these problems would damage public trust in government, Anutin said that while he cannot stop dishonest minds, just two weeks of investigations have already caught nearly all offenders. An empowered committee has revoked the names of corrupt officials. The government's mechanisms have located every point of failure completely, and more actions will follow—seven enforcement actions occurred by yesterday (July 27) and action number eight came today, with actions nine and ten to follow. All will be exposed.

Anutin added that he met this morning with Suchat Trakulsueksamkul, chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Suchat stated that the NACC has assigned itself to lead a sub-committee investigating the matter, a rare occurrence that reassures Anutin this will not become mere theatrical spectacle. Even the NACC chairman personally watches the cases. On the government side, Deputy PM Pakorn Nileprapen will submit a report within two to three days, and all threads will converge to reveal the full scope of wrongdoing.

When asked whether people implicated in Pakorn's report should face prosecution, Anutin said three are already in custody without bail granted, and arrest warrants have been issued for many others.

Deputy Police Chief Declines Transfer, Seeks to Serve Until Retirement

Senior Deputy Police Chief Niran Lumsri declined a transfer, invoking the National Police Act to request serving the remaining two years until his retirement with the Royal Thai Police rather than moving to another agency.

Deputy Police Chief Declines Transfer, Seeks to Serve Until Retirement
28 Jul Khaosod

Deputy Police Chief Niran Lumsri, the most senior deputy commissioner, submitted an urgent letter to Police Chief Kittiratch Panpetch on July 27, 2024, formally declining a transfer to another government agency and requesting to remain with the Royal Thai Police until retirement. The letter came following a Prime Minister's Office announcement on July 24 regarding the royal appointment of Police Chief Samaraon Nualma, who will assume the top position on October 1, 2024.

In his letter, Lumsri cited Section 93 of the National Police Act, which states that transfers require the officer's consent. He emphasized that with only two years of service remaining before retirement and 37 years already served in the police force, he lacks experience in other government sectors. Lumsri argued that his expertise in investigation, crime prevention, and management—developed entirely within the Royal Thai Police—would be better utilized by remaining in the organization rather than transferring elsewhere with limited time left to contribute meaningfully. He stressed his commitment to good governance and efficient service delivery, concluding that his continued presence in the police force would serve the public interest more effectively than a late-career transfer to an unfamiliar agency.

Police in Ban Pho district, Chachoengsao province, responded on the evening of July 27 after receiving a report of a body found in roadside grass near a factory. The victim, identified as Ms. Ten, 26, a Myanmar national employed as a fish processor, was found lying on her back with a deep throat wound. Her left hand gripped a clump of hair, and her clothing—a black shirt and torn shorts—showed signs of a struggle. The body was already decomposing.

According to her younger brother's initial statement, the victim left her room around 9 p.m. on July 25 while on a phone call and subsequently went out of contact. Family and coworkers searched for her but could not locate her. On the evening of July 27, while returning to his room after work, the brother noticed an unusual smell and found grass had been oddly placed over the area, leading him to investigate and discover the body.

Police have launched an investigation targeting a male coworker of the same nationality, who has been considered a prime suspect and disappeared on the night of July 25. He has been brought in for questioning. The victim's body has been sent for full autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police Hospital.

PM Anutin Dismisses Coalition Rift Reports As Party Matters

PM Anutin dismissed coalition tensions on July 28, 2025, insisting there are no internal disputes within his political alliance and calling out media for manufacturing stories about party conflicts.

PM Anutin Dismisses Coalition Rift Reports As Party Matters
28 Jul Khaosod

Prime Minister Anutin Chaiyawongsa dismissed speculation about coalition tensions on July 28, 2025, responding to reports that he had posted a photograph with Bhumjaithai Party members and Buriram United Football Club chairman Newin Chidchob. Anutin laughed off questions about whether the coalition leadership had resolved any internal disputes, rhetorically asking journalists why they were manufacturing stories about party conflicts. He insisted there were no issues to clarify, saying the relationships within his political family had remained stable for years.

Anutin challenged media to stop asking provocative questions that might misrepresent innocent statements. When asked about a cryptic social media post by Kruna Chidchob containing a message about removing "untrustworthy" people, Anutin defended the sentiment and turned the criticism back on analysts and political commentators who he said lacked credibility and professional integrity. He argued that such commentators were often failed individuals without genuine expertise, and that reporters should focus on quality journalism rather than manufacturing discord within the government.

28 Jul Khaosod

Police from Bang Bua Thong station in Nonthaburi responded to reports of a shooting at a two-story house in Lahan subdistrict at 7 a.m. on July 28, 2025. Officers found two deceased victims in the lower hallway: Soong (surname withheld), 71, and Suda (surname withheld), 74, both shot in the torso, arms, and legs. Four others were wounded: Ampaa, Sakrin, and Saraarin, plus the suspect, Theemat (surname withheld), 59.

According to investigator Narisara, the daughter of the deceased, Theemat arrived in the morning and argued with her parents over a land dispute. He then opened fire, killing them both. When Ampaa and Sakrin tried to help, they were also shot. Theemat claimed he harbored resentment because his uncle's will had permitted him shared use of land that was later developed into a house by relatives who refused to honor the agreement. He said he had pursued the matter in court from 2019 to 2022 but the case was dismissed. He claimed he came to confront them about resolving the issue when he fired a warning shot, then went upstairs to speak with his aunt.

Narisara stated she heard multiple gunshots and initially held back by her boyfriend. Her sister-in-law then called to tell her to come see the blood. When she arrived, she saw her brother fighting the suspect with a knife and a gun fell near a pillar. Fearing the suspect would seize it and shoot her, she threw the gun into the grass. She noted this land dispute had troubled the family for over a decade and that the suspect, her mother's brother, had previously attacked her with a knife before her aunt intervened.

Thailand Orders Investigation Into Chinese Tourist's Removal

Thailand's Foreign Minister has ordered an investigation after a Chinese tourist was allegedly subjected to excessive force by security at a Bangkok book festival, following a request from the Chinese Embassy.

Thailand Orders Investigation Into Chinese Tourist's Removal
28 Jul Khaosod

BANGKOK — Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has ordered a fact-finding investigation after the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok requested Thai authorities examine an incident where a Chinese national allegedly faced excessive force from a security guard at a book festival event.

Speaking on Tuesday, Sihasak said authorities would first establish the facts before taking further action. "We have ordered an investigation to determine exactly what happened. Incidents like this can occur," he said.

The Chinese Embassy had urged Thai authorities to promptly investigate the case, which arose from an altercation at the International Novel Festival 2026 in Bangkok.

When asked about Thai social media users criticizing the Chinese Embassy's Facebook statement, Sihasak said the embassy had the right to issue a public explanation. "We understand people's feelings, but it is better to establish the facts and ensure fairness for all parties," he said.

Asked whether Thailand would coordinate with the Chinese Embassy on the matter, Sihasak said discussions should wait until the investigation concludes. "Let's establish the facts first. Once the investigation is finished, we can discuss the matter. We must ensure fairness for all sides," he said.

The controversy began when a Chinese attendee was forcibly removed from reserved seating by event security staff, sparking heated debate online in Thailand and China.

Organizer GMMTV later acknowledged that the outsourced security worker used excessive force, apologized for the incident, and suspended the staff member pending investigation results. The company also denied claims that it had filed legal action against the Chinese attendee.

Police in Udon Thani responded on the evening of July 27 to reports of a death in a gas station bathroom on the outskirts of the city. Officers, accompanied by a forensic pathologist from Udon Thani Hospital and rescue personnel, found the body of a 39-year-old man identified as Mr. A (pseudonym), with initial indications suggesting he took his own life. A Honda motorcycle bearing an Udon Thani registration was parked outside the bathroom, and identification found on the deceased indicated he was a professional nurse at a hospital in the province.

The preliminary autopsy revealed no wounds or signs of physical assault. Officers discovered a handwritten note left under the motorcycle seat expressing emotional distress about life and love. Investigation of the deceased's mobile phone revealed social media posts made before the incident with similar themes related to a relationship.

According to gas station staff, the man arrived around 6 p.m., lingered near the bathroom area, sat briefly, then entered the bathroom and did not exit. Someone later discovered him deceased and alerted staff. Police are conducting a thorough investigation and will interview family members and relevant parties to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
