Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Siwarak Phuangketu spoke on August 5, 2569 at Government House about the disruption at Suvarnabhumi Airport after more than 20 Chinese tourists were denied boarding, with reports of alleged discriminatory behavior by Thai airport staff. He said the primary responsibility lies with the Ministry of Transport, but emphasized the need to welcome visitors and provide smooth procedures while adhering to immigration rules.
When asked whether understanding must be built between Chinese tourists and officials, particularly to help tourists understand Thai systems and regulations, Siwarak noted this is the responsibility of the Chinese ambassador in Thailand, as similar incidents have occurred among Thai citizens before.
He said he had previously told the Chinese ambassador that this is a sensitive matter requiring clarification—not simply defending Chinese interests, but fostering mutual understanding. Since the ambassador serves in Thailand, his primary duty is to promote bilateral relations and goodwill between peoples. The foreign minister stressed that the ambassador's statements must reflect this diplomatic responsibility without amplifying tensions, just as Thai ambassadors in China must maintain positive relations.
