Private Hospital Staff Arrested in Surrogacy Scam
Hospital staff member arrested for operating a five-year surrogate trafficking scheme involving 164 Chinese nationals, charging clients 70,000 baht per delivery while falsifying birth certificates with Thai fathers.
Police arrested Ms. S., a medical records officer at a private hospital in Thonburi district, on July 9, 2569, for involvement in a Chinese surrogate child trafficking operation. She served as a broker recruiting Chinese clients for deliveries at the hospital with a service package priced at 70,000 baht, earning 20,000 baht per case for coordinating paperwork. The operation has been running for over five years.
A review of hospital medical records uncovered 164 Chinese nationals registered with Thai fathers on birth certificates, with no pregnancy documentation. The hospital issued birth certificates with Thai fathers listed despite no prior prenatal history, and the Thai fathers appeared only after birth registration.
Investigators charged the suspect with misconduct in office, dereliction of duty, or corruption under relevant laws. Police informed her of her rights and transferred her to Metropolitan Police Division 8 for further interrogation and expanded investigation.
