Progressive Social Security Team Urges Halt to Board Advisor Selection
The Progressive Social Security Team has demanded that Thailand's Social Security Office and Labour Minister cancel the selection of seven advisors to the newly elected social security board, claiming the process is illegal and pre‑empted the board's election. They argue the selection committee was appointed via a secret order, includes mostly unelected members, and convened before the board election took place. The group calls for the order's revocation and a halt to the advisor selection until proper procedures are followed.
The Progressive Social Security Team announced on 19 October 2069 that it is calling on the Social Security Office and the Labour Minister to stop and cancel the process of selecting seven qualified advisors to the new social security board, which they say is illegal and usurps the board’s authority. They note that the new board won the public election on 11 October 2069 but has not yet been appointed, yet the Social Security Office had already formed the selection committee and held its first meeting on 22 September 2069—before the election took place. The team alleges the selection committee was appointed via a secret Ministry of Labour Order No. 1884/2569 dated 8 September 2069, does not include the required employer and insured representatives, and was rushed to pre‑empt the election, violating the Social Security Act and its selection regulations. They demand the immediate cancellation of that order and a halt to the advisor selection until a committee properly nominated by the newly elected board is formed.
