Serena Williams Withdraws From Wimbledon Doubles With Venus
Serena Williams has withdrawn from Wimbledon doubles with sister Venus due to a knee injury, ending hopes for another sibling partnership at the Grand Slam event.
44-year-old tennis champion Serena Williams announced she will be unable to compete in the women's doubles at Grand Slam tournament Wimbledon alongside her sister. Williams had just returned to singles competition before losing to Maya Joyti in the first round. She had originally planned to continue competing in the doubles event with Venus Williams, but ultimately announced via Instagram that she cannot participate due to a knee injury. In her statement, Williams wrote: "I'm heartbroken to withdraw from the doubles. Coming back to play has been such a gift, and the chance to play with Venus one more time means the world to me. I did everything I could to prepare, but unfortunately my knee is not ready for competition."
