Thai Airways Hostess Arrested for Heroin Smuggling in Australia
A Thai Airways flight attendant was arrested by Australian police on drug smuggling charges, with the Thai Consulate providing legal support as authorities investigate the case.
Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak Phuangkegtkao disclosed on July 1, 2569 at Parliament that a Thai Airways flight attendant was arrested by Australian police on drug smuggling charges. He confirmed that the Thai Consulate in Australia is providing support and that the suspect has legal representation. The government is closely monitoring the case. Sihasak stressed that all proceedings must follow legal processes and require cooperation from both sides. He noted the suspect is currently under Thai control and cannot leave the country. Addressing concerns about damage to Thailand's image, Sihasak stated that such incidents can occur in any country and are not unique to Thailand. However, he emphasized that Thai Airways must implement stricter measures to prevent similar occurrences. Regarding whether Thai Airways flights to Australia will face heightened scrutiny, he suggested that beyond increased inspections, Australian authorities likely have intelligence and informant sources leading to their investigation, which should proceed according to legal procedures.
