Thailand Braces for Heavy Rain, Flash Floods Through Tomorrow
Thailand faces heavy to very heavy rainfall through September 20, with flash floods and rough seas threatening the Central and Southern regions including the Andaman area.
At 5 p.m. on September 19, the Thai Meteorological Department announced its 10th warning (No. 214/2569) regarding heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand and strong winds in the Andaman Sea, with effects extending through September 20.
From September 19-20, Thailand will experience heavy rain in some areas, with very heavy rainfall expected in parts of the Central and Southern regions. The warning is attributed to a high-pressure system and cold air mass from China spreading over the northern and northeastern regions, while monsoon troughs pass through the lower central, eastern, and upper southern areas. The southwest monsoon is also intensifying across the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The public is urged to exercise caution regarding heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation, which may cause flash floods and runoff, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. Travelers should avoid routes prone to repeated flooding, especially low areas where water may accumulate rapidly. In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishermen in the Gulf and Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid thunderstorm zones, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during September 19-20.
