Woman Shot Dead Over Property Dispute; Ex-Daughter-in-Law Arrested
A 72-year-old woman was shot and killed at her home in Surat Thani over a property dispute; her ex-daughter-in-law was arrested hours later after also shooting another man.
At 1:24 p.m. on September 19, 2024, Ban Na San Police in Surat Thani received a report of a 72-year-old woman shot dead at her home in Thung Tao Noi subdistrict, Ban Na San district. Police and emergency personnel rushed to the scene, a two-story concrete and wooden structure, where they found the victim's body bearing gunshot wounds from an unknown caliber weapon. Witnesses identified the shooter as Thanyadon, 43, a former daughter-in-law residing in Tham Sing Khon subdistrict, Kiri Rat Nikhom district. After the initial shooting, the suspect fled in a black Toyota with unknown license plates. Investigators later discovered that Thanyadon had also shot Wachirwit, 35, the ex-husband's brother, causing serious injury at a palm plantation, before driving to shoot and kill the ex-mother-in-law.
Police coordinated with nearby police stations to set up checkpoints. At 4:30 p.m., investigators apprehended Thanyadon at a roadblock at the entrance of Moo 1, Tham Sing Khon subdistrict, Kiri Rat Nikhom district, and recovered a .38-caliber handgun used in the shooting. Preliminary investigation revealed that Thanyadon had recently separated from her husband and there remained unresolved disputes concerning property and durian orchard ownership. Investigators are transporting the suspect to Ban Na San Police Station for further questioning and legal proceedings.
