Thailand Eyes 24 Gold Medals at Asian Para Games
Thailand targets at least 24 gold medals at October's Asian Para Games in Japan, fielding world-class athletes in wheelchair racing, boccia, fencing, and track and field following their strong performance hosting the regional games earlier
Thailand's Paralympic team is fully mobilized with athletes holding Paralympic medals and world championships to pursue medals at Japan's competition. Dr. Kongsakd Yodmanee, director-general of the Sports Authority of Thailand, revealed details about the Thai national Paralympic team preparing for the fifth Asian Para Games scheduled for October 18-24, 2025, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Everything is proceeding smoothly, with athletes in peak condition from continuous training since hosting the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand in January 2025.
Yodmanee stated that Thailand's world-class athletes remain competitive medal contenders. These include wheelchair racing, represented by Phongsakorn Paiyao, a multiple Paralympic gold medallist who recently set a world record in the men's 200 metres class T53 in May; boccia athlete Worrawut Saengampa in the BC2 class and Ledamani Galaykham in the women's BC3 class, who recently won world championships; and wheelchair fencing, where Saisuneya Jahnana, a world champion and Paralympic gold medallist, is the standout hope. Track and field, table tennis, and several other sports also have gold medal prospects.
"The Sports Authority is confident we will win no fewer than 24 gold medals because many of our sports are at world level and Paralympic standard," Yodmanee said. "We ask sports fans to follow the live broadcast on T SPORTS 7 and cheer on all members of Thailand's Paralympic team."
At the fourth Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China in 2023, Thailand's Paralympic team won 27 gold medals, 26 silver, and 55 bronze, ranking seventh in Asia.
