Thailand Nears 15-Gold Target at Asian Games
Thailand is on pace to reach its 15-gold target at the Asian Games in Japan, with 10 medals already secured as athletes provide psychological relief to flood-affected citizens at home.
At Government House on September 29, Sports Minister Surasak Pantjaroenvorakul praised Thai national athletes competing at the Asian Games in Japan, saying they deserve thanks for bringing joy to flood-affected Thais at home. He noted that while flooding has created hardship across the country, sports have provided comfort and hope during this difficult period. With 10 gold medals already won, Thailand is within reach of its 15-gold target, performing well across multiple sports. Surasak told athletes that their achievements serve as a form of psychological healing for all Thai people. He confirmed prize money for gold, silver, and bronze medals will be paid out within seven days after the games conclude. When asked about additional relief for flood-affected athletes, Surasak said he is in talks with the Thailand Sports Authority and various sports federations to survey affected individuals and provide supplementary assistance, as these athletes have made sacrifices for the nation.
