Thailand Weather Bureau Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Multiple Regions
Thailand's meteorological department warns of heavy rainfall across multiple regions through July 30, with risks of flash floods in hilly and low-lying areas; rough seas in the Andaman Sea may exceed 3 meters.
On July 27, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued warning number 8 (135/2569) regarding very heavy rainfall expected across Thailand through July 30, 2024. Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast for parts of the northeastern, central, eastern, and western southern regions, caused by a monsoon trough affecting the upper north and northeastern areas combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The public is urged to exercise caution against dangers from heavy rainfall and accumulated water, which may cause sudden flash floods and flash flood situations, especially in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying areas. The meteorological department identified 30 provinces experiencing heavy rainfall today.
Wave conditions in the upper Andaman Sea are quite rough, with wave heights of 2-3 meters, rising above 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. The upper Gulf of Thailand and lower Andaman Sea are experiencing wave heights around 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters where thunderstorms occur. Fishermen in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to exercise caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small vessels in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during this period.
The public is asked to plan their daily activities and travel carefully during this timeframe. Updates are available from the Thai Meteorological Department website at http://www.tmd.go.th or by phone at 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours daily.
