TMD Issues Heavy Rain Warning for 41 Provinces
The Thai Meteorological Department warns of heavy to very heavy rain across 41 provinces from October 27-28, with Southern Thailand facing the highest risk of flash floods and landslides.
The Thai Meteorological Department's Announcement No. 8 warns that from October 27-28, 2026, Southern Thailand will experience continuous rain with heavy to very heavy downpours in many areas. The public is cautioned against accumulated rainfall that could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in foothills near waterways and low-lying areas prone to flooding. On October 27, upper Thailand will see rain easing but conditions remain unstable with thunderstorms, strong gusts, and heavy rain in places. People should avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards.
The weather pattern is driven by a high-pressure system from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea, while the monsoon trough strengthening across the South brings stronger easterly winds carrying moisture from the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves may exceed 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Mariners should navigate with caution and avoid storm-hit zones.
Forty-one provinces are affected. On October 27, very heavy rain is forecast for Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Heavy rain is expected across the North (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phetchabun), Central (Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Bangkok and vicinity), East (Nakhon Nayok, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat), and the remaining Southern provinces (Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Krabi, Trang, Satun).
On October 28, heavy rain continues in the South: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Southern residents should watch for continued accumulated rain causing flash floods, landslides, and inundation, especially in low-lying and foothill areas. Those in flooded zones should monitor rising water levels and follow local authority guidance.
The public is urged to plan activities and travel carefully, monitor continuous updates from the Thai Meteorological Department via www.tmd.go.th or hotlines 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182 (24 hours). The next announcement will be issued October 27 at 5:00 PM.
