Thailand Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Flash Floods Threaten 52 Provinces

The Thai Meteorological Department announced on October 26, 2026, Announcement No. 6 (278/2026) regarding heavy to very heavy rain in Southern Thailand and turbulent weather in upper Thailand, effective through October 28, 2026. During October 26-28, the South will experience continuous rain with heavy downpours in many areas and very heavy rain in some places. The public is warned of dangers from accumulated rainfall that may trigger flash floods and forest runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying basins prone to flooding.

From October 26-27, upper Thailand will face turbulent conditions including thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, heavy rain, and isolated lightning strikes, affecting the Northeast first. The North, Central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the East will be impacted subsequently. People are advised to avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards.

The conditions stem from a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea, driving easterly winds that bring moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand across upper Thailand, while the monsoon trough passing through the South strengthens.

In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves will exceed 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Mariners in the Gulf and Andaman should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm zones.
