TMD Issues Severe Weather Warning for Thailand Nov 5-9
The Thai Meteorological Department warns of severe weather nationwide Nov 5-9: upper Thailand faces thunderstorms, hail and strong winds Nov 5-7, while the South braces for heavy
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued Announcement No. 6 (289/2026) on November 4, 2026, warning of severe weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rain in the South from November 5-9, 2026.
From November 5-7, upper Thailand will face thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail, and isolated heavy rain. The Northeast will be affected first, followed by the North, Central (including Bangkok and its vicinity), and the East. Residents should beware of dangers from thunderstorms and strong winds, and avoid staying in open fields, under large trees, or near unstable billboards.
From November 7-9, the South will see increased rainfall with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some places. People are warned of hazards from accumulated rain that could trigger flash floods and forest runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones.
The cause is a high-pressure system or another cold air mass from China extending over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, strengthening the easterly winds over Thailand and the Gulf.
In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves will exceed two meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in the Gulf and Andaman should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas.
For safety and to minimize impacts, the public is advised to plan daily activities and travel carefully during this period. TMD urges everyone to monitor continuous announcements via its website (www.tmd.go.th), hotlines 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.
Announced on November 4, 2026 at 05:00. The next announcement will be issued on November 4, 2026 at 17:00.
