TMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Flash Floods Across Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department warns of heavy to very heavy rain across southern Thailand and storms in upper regions until Oct. 28, raising
The Thai Meteorological Department issued announcement number five warning of continuous heavy rain and identifying affected provinces, urging caution against flash floods and landslides. On October 25, 2026, the department announced heavy to very heavy rain in the South and stormy weather in upper Thailand, effective until October 28, 2026, announcement number five (277/2026). It stated that from October 25 to 28, the South will experience continuous rain with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some places. The public is warned of dangers from accumulated rainfall which may cause flash floods and landslides, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones where flooding may occur. From October 25 to 27, upper Thailand will have stormy weather with thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning in some areas, affecting the Northeast first. The North, Central, Bangkok metropolitan area, and East will be affected subsequently. The public is warned of dangers from thunderstorms and strong winds, and should avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards. This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing easterly winds to bring moisture from the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand over upper Thailand, while the monsoon trough passing through the South strengthens. For wind waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand where thunderstorms occur, waves will exceed two meters. Mariners in the Gulf and Andaman should navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. For safety and to reduce potential impacts, the public is asked to plan daily activities and travel carefully during this period. The public should continuously monitor announcements from the Thai Meteorological Department and can obtain information at the department website http://www.tmd.go.th or at 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours. Announced on October 25, 2026 at 17:00. The department will issue the next announcement on October 26, 2026 at 05:00.
