Tunisia Coach Renard Resigns After Two Matches
French coach Algerve Renard has resigned after just two matches leading Tunisia at the 2026 World Cup, with the team eliminated in the group stage after losing all three matches without scoring a point.
French coach Algerve Renard has resigned from his position as head coach of Tunisia's national football team after taking charge for just two matches at the 2026 World Cup, with the team eliminated in the group stage.
Tunisia had dismissed previous coach Sabri Lamouchi following a 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening Group F match, bringing in Renard as a mid-tournament replacement on June 16. However, Tunisia's situation only worsened under his tenure. The team then lost 4-0 to Japan and 3-1 to Netherlands, finishing all three group matches without a single point and exiting as the fourth-place team in their group.
Renard posted on Instagram: "Before I leave, I want to thank the Tunisian Football Federation for giving me the opportunity to be part of the 2026 World Cup. I felt honored to work with Tunisia, and I wish the team all the best in the future."
Ironically, Renard was originally supposed to coach Saudi Arabia at this World Cup after having guided them through Asian qualifying, but he was fired on April 17 shortly before the tournament started.
