Two Cambodians Arrested for Poaching in Chanthaburi National Park
Two Cambodian nationals were arrested November 1 in Chanthaburi's Phliu Waterfall National Park for poaching, caught with a modified air rifle and ammunition.
Chanthaburi – On November 1, a team from Phliu Waterfall National Park Protection Unit 2 (Ban Ang) was conducting a strict patrol to prevent poaching, illegal logging, and collection of protected plants in line with Department of National Parks policy. While patrolling the forest near Ban Thaew Klong, Moo 1, Thap Phla Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chanthaburi Province (coordinates 48P 0191004 E 1397262 N), officers spotted two suspicious men carrying long air rifles entering the conserved forest. Upon inspection, both were confirmed as Cambodian nationals. A search of their persons and the scene yielded one homemade air rifle fitted with a sound suppressor and scope, lacking a serial number, along with a quantity of ammunition and personal gear. All items were seized as evidence. Officers prepared arrest and seizure records and transferred the two suspects to Chanthaburi Provincial Police investigators for prosecution under the National Park Act B.E. 2562, Sections 19(7) and 20 (penalties Sections 45 and 47) for entering a national park to degrade forest conditions or hunt wildlife, and under the Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks and Imitation Firearms Act B.E. 2490. Phliu Waterfall National Park continues to intensify quality patrols and monitor the conserved forest continuously to protect the forest and wildlife from illegal actors.
