Villagers Flee Flood with Children, Pets to University Shelter
Villagers in Bang Khla District, Chachoengsao Province fled rising floodwaters with children, grandchildren, and pets, seeking refuge at a temporary shelter in Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University. The flood was driven by high volumes of water from the Prachin Buri and Nakhon Nayok rivers flowing into the Bang Pakong River. Over 400 people were evacuated overnight as access routes became inundated.
The evacuation began at 23:40 on 29 September 2026 when officials from Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University Chachoengsao received a request from Bang Khla District Office to move villagers to a temporary shelter after water levels rose quickly. The shelter at the university's Bang Khla center already housed over 300 residents, but the access road started to flood, making travel difficult. District protection officers then led another batch of more than 100 villagers from Moo 6, T. Samed Tai, Bang Khla District to the shelter in stages. Seventy‑year‑old Grandma Pink Phromkan said she was eating dinner near the village headman’s house when she heard neighbours discussing the flood and decided to flee with other villagers in a car, leaving without telling anyone because her daughter and grandchild were not home. She feared being alone if others left and also feared the water rising further, so she joined the evacuation without taking any belongings. University staff provided her with a bed and blanket because the air‑conditioned shelter could feel cold.
