Revealing a New Sacred Amulet - Luang Por Pern's Commemorative Coin
Phra Udom Prachanart, also known as Luang Por Pern Thitaguno, was a renowned monk from Nakhon Chai Si, former abbot of Wat Khok Khema and Wat Bang Phra in Nakhon Pathom Province. Born as Pern Purahong on Sunday, August 12, 1923, at house number 4, Moo 5, Bang Kaew Fa Subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si District, he was ordained at age 20 at Wat Bang Phra. His ordination involved Phra Ajarn Him as his ordination mentor, Phra Ajarn Thong Yu as his ceremonial master, and Phra Ajarn Plian Thitadhammo as his advisory monk. In 1973, after the passing of Luang Por Thong Yu, the temple's previous abbot, villagers invited Luang Por Pern to become the new abbot, which he accepted on August 25, 1975. In 1994, he was granted the ecclesiastical title of Phra Udom Prachanart. He passed away peacefully at Siriraj Hospital on June 30, 2002, at the age of 79, with 54 years in monastic life. His first commemorative coin, created in 1966 at Wat Khok Khema, is particularly sought after by collectors, featuring his seated image and a sacred yantra design.
