3 Aug Khaosod

On August 3, 2026, officials from Mueang Kanchanaburi district administration, the Kanchanaburi provincial military security command, the 9th Infantry Regiment intelligence unit, Border Patrol Police Unit 13, and Mueang Kanchanaburi police station conducted a raid on a rented raft positioned near Koh Kaew in the middle of the Mae Nam Khwae Noi River in Nong Hya subdistrict, Mueang district, Kanchanaburi province. The operation followed a tip from a concerned citizen that dozens of teenagers had rented the raft to host a drug-fueled party.

During the raid, officers discovered more than 50 male and female teenagers drinking and partying on the raft, with some showing signs of drug intoxication. A search recovered ecstasy and ketamine from four male teenagers. Subsequent urine tests on all teenagers present revealed that 14 male teenagers and 21 female teenagers tested positive for drug metabolites (indicated by purple-colored urine). All 35 positive cases were taken into custody for legal proceedings.

Later, the raft was relocated to a proper dock at Ban Linthang, where Deputy Governor Wuthiphong Suphakvanitchaya inspected the scene personally. Officials also questioned the raft owner, who claimed the teenagers had rented the vessel normally for a birthday party and denied knowledge of any drug-related activities.

Pheu Thai Party Denies Silencing Allegation in Sexual Harassment Case
3 Aug Khaosod

The Pheu Thai Party has clarified the facts in a case involving former member Thisanee Chunhawan, who publicly alleged she was sexually harassed by a Move Forward parliamentarian but was silenced by the party to protect its image. The party's statement explains that party executives were made aware when Thisanee disclosed the incident to Picharn Chaowpattanawong, then Move Forward's deputy leader, who reported it to party secretary Chaitawat Tulathon as a serious matter warranting investigation and disciplinary action. However, Thisanee at that time stated she only wanted to inform Picharn of what happened but did not want the party to take any action and refused to reveal the alleged perpetrator's name. Because Thisanee would not disclose the name, Move Forward could not proceed with a full investigation. Party executives from both Move Forward and Pheu Thai deny ever requesting Thisanee's silence to protect the organization's image, noting that other cases have been investigated and perpetrators punished publicly. The party states it has never closed the door on investigating Thisanee's case and is willing to proceed fully if she now consents, having already begun inviting her and relevant witnesses to provide information. The party firmly emphasizes that sexual harassment is a serious offense, rejects any culture of protecting wrongdoers, and is prepared to impose appropriate penalties while considering the full impact on the victim.

SME Promotion Office Denies Bias in E-Commerce Project Selection

OSMEP defended its selection process for e-commerce SME projects against bias allegations, stating all decisions followed legal requirements and transparent evaluation criteria approved by independent committees.

SME Promotion Office Denies Bias in E-Commerce Project Selection
3 Aug Khaosod

On August 3, 2025, the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) released a fact-clarification document regarding the selection process for implementing partners in the "SME Promotion into E-Commerce and Live-Commerce Markets" and "Development and Building of Thailand's E-Commerce Ecosystem for Thai SMEs" projects. This followed a complaint filed by a representative of Silpakorn University through the Democratic Party requesting an investigation into the selection process.

OSMEP emphasized that the selection adhered to Section 34(2) of the SME Promotion Act, which provides the legal framework for projects of this nature and was approved by relevant committees. The office stated it considered not only speed but also the legal framework, project characteristics, and collaboration objectives. Although the method differed from the Central Accounting Office's e-bidding system used for standard government procurement, all steps remained transparent, auditable, and compliant with applicable laws.

Both projects employed clear evaluation criteria announced in advance. Committee members scored independently based on professional expertise without predetermined scores, and selection results were finalized by unanimous committee resolution. To ensure neutrality and transparency, OSMEP appointed a three-part committee comprising independent experts with relevant knowledge and experience, internal OSMEP staff directly or indirectly involved in project implementation, legal specialists, procurement specialists, and monitoring and evaluation staff.

Three Cambodians Caught Crossing Border Illegally into Thailand
3 Aug Khaosod

On August 3, 2025, officers from the Eastern Command and the Aranyaprathet Task Force, including troops from the 12th Royal Forest Department Control Unit and the 2nd Information Operations Team, conducted a patrol to prevent illegal border crossings in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. During their patrol near Ban Pa Rai Mai village, officials spotted a group moving suspiciously through a natural passage and detained three Cambodian nationals—two men and one woman—who had no passports or legal entry documents.

During interrogation, the detainees revealed they were friends from Phnom Penh who had been recruited by an unknown Cambodian acquaintance to work sewing bags at a salt market factory. They were offered 9,000 baht per month with a Thai employer covering the 6,500-baht border crossing cost, payable upon arrival in Thailand. The three hired a tuk-tuk to take them to the border, where two unnamed Cambodian guides smuggled them across through a natural pathway.

However, as the group crossed Highway 3446, border patrol officers spotted and apprehended all three. The two Cambodian smugglers saw the officials approaching and fled back into Cambodia. The three detainees have been handed over to Khlong Luek police station for legal proceedings, while authorities continue investigating those involved in recruiting and trafficking workers across the border.

Lottery Dispute Escalates as Buyer Challenges Vendor's Shifting Story

A lottery ticket dispute has escalated after the vendor repeatedly changed her story about claiming the June 2024 first-prize winnings, contradicting her earlier denials to media and video statements. The buyer, Paa Yom, claims she ordered

Lottery Dispute Escalates as Buyer Challenges Vendor's Shifting Story
3 Aug Khaosod

A lottery dispute that has divided a community continues to intensify as the buyer challenges the vendor's contradictory statements. Paa Yom, a regular customer, claims she ordered ticket 287,184 through Paa Daeng, the sister of Paa Mani, the lottery stand owner, via phone based on their long acquaintance. However, no photographic evidence or written confirmation was made. When the ticket won first prize on June 16, 2024, ownership became immediately contested.

Paa Jing initially told media she did not claim the prize and did not know who bought the winning ticket. However, she later admitted to lawyer Paisal Ruettheeth that she had redeemed the prize herself, reasoning that because the first-prize ticket remained in her stand, it must belong to her. This contradicts her earlier denials and conflicts with video recordings in which she stated she did not win.

Paa Yom has never received the ticket numbered 184 she ordered. She notes that Paa Jing's account has shifted repeatedly and is inconsistent. When confronted about verification with the government lottery office, Paa Jing acknowledged she personally claimed the winnings.

Regarding the question of why Paa Yom checked the results around 7 p.m. on the draw day, she explained she was away conducting a mobile community service providing free haircuts with the local district office. When she returned to her beauty shop, customers kept coming. Only in the evening, after a friend messaged asking if she won, did she remember ordering ticket 184. She had won a fifth-prize ticket before, so she messaged Paa Jing but received no reply, only a read receipt.

Paa Yom stated that despite the case now in court, she harbors no personal ill will toward Paa Jing, and they were once close friends who ate together and treated each other like sisters. She had publicly offered 200,000 baht if Paa Jing returned the ticket, a promise she posted online. Yet Paa Jing continues to maintain she did not win.

When asked if she would accept the prize money now, Paa Yom replied it is too late, and she insists the matter follow legal proceedings. She remains confident that she genuinely ordered ticket 184, despite the lack of written proof.
