Anutin Denies Pressure on NACC Over Local Election Fraud
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Chaiwirakoul denied any pressure on the National Anti-Corruption Commission regarding a local election fraud case, saying the government has fully acted and arrested several suspects. He spoke at the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, explaining that suspect releases resulted from the NACC missing a deadline to forward cases to prosecutors. Anutin added that the opposition could raise the issue in a no-confidence debate, but the NACC must answer for itself.
Speaking at the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation on October 9, 2069 at 08:55, Anutin Chaiwirakoul said the release of suspects in the local exam fraud case was due to the NACC failing to finish its case file in time to forward it to prosecutors. He dismissed concerns that the NACC could be influenced, saying it works under its own law and no one can pressure it. Anutin added that the government has done everything possible, detaining many individuals involved. When asked if the opposition might use the issue in a no-confidence debate, he replied that all matters can be explained, but questions about the NACC must be directed to the commission itself because the government cannot speak for an independent agency.
