Younger Brother Shoots Drug‑Addicted Sibling After Property Destruction

The younger brother told police he used a pen‑gun .22 to fire at his older brother, Mr. Prasit, and that the gun had been thrown into a nearby pond after the shooting. He said the motive was his brother's long‑term drug addiction and violent behavior: Mr. Prasit frequently abused family members, even kicking their mother out of the house, and would sell or destroy belongings—including the younger brother's two motorcycles—to buy drugs. If he did not get what he wanted, he would damage or burn items until almost everything in the house was gone. The immediate trigger occurred when the older brother secretly took the younger brother's cow from the field and hid it to extort money. After the younger brother found the cow and tried to bring the calf back to the pen, the older brother emerged, blocked him, and attempted to cause bodily harm. The younger brother ran into the house to get the pen‑gun, intending only to fire a warning shot, but the gun discharged and struck the older brother in the right side of the head, killing him instantly. Shocked, he threw the weapon into the water and waited at a relative's house to surrender. The mother, Ms. Boonmee Yanasit, aged 61, said her son Mr. Prasit suffered from a psychiatric condition requiring medication at Phra Si Mahapho Hospital, which made him violently aggressive; she herself had been abused and had to stay with relatives. Police initially detained Mr. Chatri for further investigation and charged him with intentional killing. He confessed to the offense and will be prosecuted according to law.
