Asian Games 2026 Postpones Equestrian Event Due to Typhoon
The 2026 Asian Games postponed equestrian competition to Tuesday as Typhoon Dujuan approaches Japan, with heavy rainfall already affecting the Izu Islands and coastal regions near Tokyo.
Organizers of the 2026 Asian Games have postponed the equestrian eventing competition to address concerns from an approaching typhoon. Japan's Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned that conditions could deteriorate rapidly as Typhoon Dujuan is forecast to pass near the Tokyo metropolitan area later in the day. Heavy rain is already falling across the Izu Islands and parts of the Pacific coast, with some areas accumulating over 300 millimeters (12 inches) of rainfall since Saturday. This has prompted authorities to issue the highest-level emergency landslide warning for Oshima city in the Izu Islands, located about 110 kilometers (68 miles) south of Tokyo. The JMA said heavy rain may intensify from Monday afternoon as the typhoon approaches the Kanto region, which includes Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. For the Asian Games competition being held in Aichi Prefecture in central Japan, organizers have rescheduled the equestrian eventing to Tuesday, September 22, due to the incoming typhoon's influence. Although the venue in Aichi was unaffected by weather conditions on the morning of September 21, organizers decided to adjust the schedule for safety.
