Grab Thailand is upgrading its ride-hailing service at Suvarnabhumi Airport to welcome tourists during high season, expanding pickup points to 12 lanes and introducing two new features to streamline queuing and driver matching, as well as advance airport ride booking.
On September 21, Arisa Lorthongpaisal, assistant managing director of travel business and driver management at Grab Thailand, said: "Tourism is a key driver of the economy and GDP, and the airport is the gateway welcoming visitors every day. Airports of Thailand forecasts 67.7 million passengers will pass through Suvarnabhumi this year, making airport facilities a critical challenge for the country during the final quarter high season."
To serve passengers better, Grab—the official ride-hailing platform of Airports of Thailand—has expanded the pickup area at Suvarnabhumi (Level 1, Gate 4) to 12 lanes and developed two new features. The PIN system helps queue and match passengers with waiting drivers, reducing wait times and congestion at pickup zones. During a one-month trial, it cut passenger wait times by 40 percent and received a 98 percent five-star satisfaction rating.
**PIN System: Queue Management and Driver Matching**
Grab's PIN system queues passengers and matches them with available drivers specifically at Suvarnabhumi. When a passenger books a ride and selects "Grab Pick-up Point," the system provides a four-digit PIN code and designates a waiting area rather than immediately assigning a vehicle or driver. Upon arrival at that spot, passengers share the PIN with a waiting driver (first come, first served) to confirm the trip before boarding. Staff assistance is available 24 hours to help with bookings, queuing, and boarding. The PIN system is available at the Grab pickup area in the passenger terminal building, Level 1, Gate 4, Suvarnabhumi Airport, zones A, B, C, and D.
**Airport Pickup: Advance Booking with Guaranteed Timing**
Grab is rolling out its Airport Pickup feature for tourists and passengers arriving at Suvarnabhumi during the final quarter, following successful launches at Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai airports. Passengers can book a ride in advance by providing their flight number and selecting a pickup time (as recommended by the system or custom-set). The feature tracks flight status in real time and adjusts pickup time if the flight is delayed, guaranteeing on-time arrival—drivers wait up to 15 minutes at the pickup point. Passengers can cancel bookings up to one hour before the scheduled time.
