Officials plan a dam inspection this weekend after 111 invasive black-chin tilapia were found at Lam Pao Dam in Kalasin Province, with authorities coordinating a long-term containment strategy across 21 affected provinces.
Deputy Agriculture Minister Watcharapol Khaokhram, heading the black-chin tilapia outbreak response centre, revealed efforts to contain the invasive species at Lam Pao Dam in Kalasin Province after over 100 fish (111 specimens) were reported in the area. Kalasin fisheries authorities are coordinating with officials and residents for continuous culling, though complete eradication will require long-term effort. The immediate focus is controlling spread and preventing further expansion. Some captured fish were large and have already spread naturally through the local ecosystem. A team will visit the site this Saturday to assess conditions and consult with provincial authorities on solutions. The response centre has integrated cooperation among 29 agencies, mobilizing resources across district, village, and community leader levels in 21 provinces experiencing active outbreaks to curb the spread and deliver concrete results.
