Thai Woman Murdered in Taiwan, Family Seeks Repatriation of Remains
Thai woman from Nakhon Ratchasima was killed by her Taiwanese boyfriend after ending their relationship; her family is now seeking to repatriate her remains and recover her substantial assets in Taiwan through legal channels.
A 36-year-old woman from Phimai District in Nakhon Ratchasima province, identified as Ms. A, went missing on September 2 after losing contact with her family, an unusual occurrence since she normally stayed in touch within two days and was active on social media. Her family later discovered that she had been killed by her Taiwanese boyfriend, who stuffed her body in a suitcase for six days in a fit of rage after she ended their relationship. A village headman eventually notified relatives that Ms. A's body had been found in Taiwan.
Ms. A was an only child whose parents have already passed away. The family estimates her estate to be substantial, including gold savings, cash, luxury brand items, and property in a Bangkok condominium, with additional assets in Taiwan that relatives wish to recover. Family members plan to contact the Office of Protection and Welfare of Thai Nationals Abroad to inquire about legal options for claiming damages and compensation from the suspect.
Phimai District Officer Siwasek Sinthoram confirmed that Thai nationals harmed abroad are protected under law, and since this is a crime outside Thai jurisdiction, the embassy will coordinate with relevant authorities to determine what legal claims for damages related to the victim's death can be pursued. He advised that relatives must work through the embassy or consulate regarding compensation matters.
