Woman Found Dead in Taiwan After Being Stuffed in Suitcase
A 35-year-old woman from Nakhon Ratchasima who went missing in September was found dead in Taiwan, killed and stuffed in a suitcase by her Taiwanese boyfriend after she ended their relationship.
On September 20, relatives of Ms. Duangporn, known as Jeans, age 35, from Phimai District in Nakhon Ratchasima, posted missing person notices after losing contact with her. Ms. Duangporn had worked in South Korea for approximately 10 years before returning to Thailand one year ago. She told relatives she had a Korean boyfriend who would help her obtain a visa to return to Korea. After leaving in August, she initially remained in contact with family, but from September onward could not be reached. Social media later revealed that Ms. Duangporn had been killed by her Taiwanese boyfriend, who strangled her in a fit of rage after she ended their relationship. Her body was hidden in a suitcase for six days before being discovered.
Reporters visited Samakha subdistrict headman's office in Phimai District, where headman Praphavopin Siripat confirmed that Ms. Duangporn was officially registered in the village but did not live there. On the morning of September 19, subdistrict administrator Saiw Kittithirakul received notification from consular officials that her body had been found. Ms. Yanisa, age 49, a relative of the deceased, explained that Jeans was an only child whose mother died during her childhood and whose father abandoned her before birth. She was raised by her grandmother, who is now deceased. After completing secondary school, Jeans moved to Bangkok to work, then to South Korea, where she stayed for approximately 10 years and had a boyfriend. She returned to Thailand one year ago and rented a condominium in Bangkok. The last contact was on September 2, when Jeans said she was traveling to visit her boyfriend in Korea. After that, she could not be reached—messages went unread and her Facebook activity stopped, which was unusual as she normally posted daily updates. A Korean-based friend of Jeans even asked the relative if she had returned to Thailand, unable to reach her. This prompted the family to post missing person notices across multiple platforms. The family remains uncertain of the exact cause and circumstances of her death. They have delegated case handling and funeral arrangements to the Office of Thai Citizens Abroad.
