Family Dispute Erupts Into Stabbing After Ex-Wife Confrontation

A chaotic family dispute turned violent on September 20 when a 36-year-old man, Aranya, was stabbed in the right arm and neck during a confrontation in a rental room in Muang District, Samut Prakan. According to police, his 44-year-old brother Sanan was the attacker, allegedly acting in self-defense while intoxicated. Aranya claimed he intervened when Sanan was arguing with his ex-wife, Anucha, 49, but Sanan accused his younger brother of attacking him first with a wooden stick.

The ex-wife explained that she had invited Sanan's new wife, Nitya, 39, to hear a recording documenting his continued harassment. She described unwanted touching at the market and persistent phone calls despite their breakup two to three months earlier. When Nitya arrived and listened to the recording, tensions escalated. According to Anucha, after Nitya left to find Sanan, he returned and verbally attacked her. She hit him with a trash scoop, prompting intervention from Aranya and neighbor Wanchai, 47, but Sanan drew a knife and stabbed Aranya.

Sanan's account differs, claiming he was defending himself after being attacked with a wooden stick and that he used the knife in self-defense. He also alleged that Aranya and Wanchai damaged his vehicle with knives and clubs while he was backing out. Rescue workers provided first aid and transported Aranya to Buddha Sothon Hospital. Police brought all parties to Muang Samut Prakan Station for questioning and negotiation, with the possibility of formal charges if no settlement is reached.
