Truck Driver Arrested With 600,000 Methamphetamine Pills From Laos
A truck driver was arrested at the Thai-Lao border with over 600,000 methamphetamine pills hidden in his vehicle after customs officials discovered the drugs during an inspection at the Friendship Bridge checkpoint in Nong Khai Province.
On September 20 at approximately 6:30 a.m., customs officials at the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge checkpoint in Muang District, Nong Khai Province, inspected a truck driven by Sayan, 48, entering from Laos. During the search, officials discovered three bags hidden among tarpaulin storage areas in the truck cab. X-ray inspection revealed a fourth bag in the trailer section. All four bags contained over 600,000 methamphetamine pills wrapped in brown tape.
Sayan admitted he was hired to transport the drugs and place them roadside in Khon Kaen's city entrance area, where someone would retrieve them. He was paid 5,000 baht per bag, totaling 20,000 baht. Authorities have transferred the suspect and evidence to Muang Nong Khai Police Station for legal proceedings.
