Authorities Bury 30 Tons of Dead Tilapia in Pathum Thani
Authorities in Pathum Thani are burying over 30 tons of dead tilapia after a mass fish kill linked to low oxygen levels in Rangsit Canal. Officials say rotting community water discharged into the canal caused the die‑off, and they are using boats and pumps to remove the carcasses while diluting the canal with clean water. The burial site, covering 27 rai, is being managed by public health staff who treat the fish with chemicals and lime before covering them with soil.
At the Canal 2 gate near Wat Saengsarn in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province, Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamronvit Thupkrachang and local agencies gathered to address the water quality crisis and mass fish mortality. He explained that water from nearby communities, already decomposing, was being discharged into Canal Two, reducing oxygen and killing fish that then floated to the Rangsit gate. Officials are using boats, scoops, and water‑pump trucks to remove the dead fish, while the Irrigation Department dilutes the canal with clean water to raise oxygen levels. The mayor of Khlong Luang added that the burial site covers 27 rai, with public health overseeing the interment of the fish after treating them with chemicals and lime, and initial estimates put the dead fish at nearly 30 tons, all of which appear to be tilapia.
