Mystery Fish Deaths Choke Pathum Thani Canal, 20 Tons Collected
Authorities in Pathum Thani have removed over 20 tonnes of dead fish from a three‑kilometre stretch of Khlong Song canal after a mysterious fish kill caused a foul smell that is troubling local residents. Despite the cleanup, more carcasses continue to surface as warm weather brings additional fish to the top of the water. Public health crews are using boats and foam rafts to collect the fish, burying them and applying lime to reduce the odor while they investigate the cause.
Pathum Thani officials are working to clear dead fish from Khlong Song canal in Khlong Luang district after discovering a massive fish kill along more than three kilometres of waterway. The rotting fish have produced a strong odor that is affecting nearby households. Crews have used boats and foam rafts to collect the carcasses, moving over 20 tonnes to a burial site. However, as the sun came out in the afternoon, more dead fish began to float to the surface, forcing workers to continue the recovery effort. Kanokwan Sapphol of the Public Health Division said the priority is to gather as many fish as possible, bury them and apply lime to lessen the smell, while investigators seek the cause of the die‑off. Residents said the stench has spread throughout the canal, noting that the water had already been dark and foul‑smelling before the fish began to surface yesterday evening, and the situation has worsened today.
