Bangkok Life Insurance Profit Jumps 6% to 3.6 Billion Baht
Bangkok Life Insurance posted 6% profit growth to 3.6 billion baht in the first half of 2025, boosted by strong renewal premiums up 11% and improved investment returns despite new business premiums growing just 6%.
Bangkok Life Insurance reported first-half 2025 earnings with total premiums of 18,064 million baht, up 10 percent year-on-year. New business premiums reached 3,869 million baht, growing 6 percent compared to the same period last year, driven primarily by a 26 percent increase from the bancassurance channel, though agent channel sales fell 9 percent and other channels declined 52 percent. New business premiums are distributed 71 percent from banks, 23 percent from agents, and 6 percent from other channels. Renewal premiums totaled 14,195 million baht, up 11 percent, generating net profit of 3,603 million baht or 2.11 baht per share, up 6 percent or 197 million baht. The profit increase was driven by 375 million baht in insurance operations gains and 382 million baht in investment gains. Investment income for the first half reached 6,439 million baht, up 4 percent, with return on investment improving to 4.47 percent from 4.28 percent, and investment yield rising to 3.73 percent from 3.64 percent year-on-year. In the second quarter of 2025, new business premiums totaled 1,356 million baht, down 12 percent, while renewal premiums were 6,035 million baht, up 8 percent. Total assets as of June 30, 2025 stood at 309,950 million baht, down 2 percent or 6,023 million baht from year-end 2024 due to lower valuations of financial assets. Financial assets represent 98 percent of total assets and 121 percent of insurance contract liabilities. The company's capital adequacy ratio reached 391 percent as of end-quarter two, up from 377 percent at year-end 2024, well above the regulatory requirement of 140 percent. Chief Executive Chon Sophonpanich said the company has been actively pursuing initiatives throughout 2025 to address the aging society under its vision of becoming the leading life insurance company in care and service, including developing Long Life Care insurance products addressing long-term needs and expanding coverage for age-related diseases, and providing health benefits and services through the BLA EveryCare platform.
