Chiang Mai's Jom Thong police have busted a major methamphetamine operation involving two Bangkok men hired to smuggle 300,000 pills disguised in a longan fruit shipment. On the afternoon of July 4, police received a tip from a transport company about two suspicious men delivering eight boxes of longans destined for Nakhon Sawan. Officers immediately investigated and discovered 314,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside the fruit boxes.
Early the next morning, police arrested Samreng, 45, and Chaynarongk, 40, both Bangkok residents, at a rented house in Pa Sang district, Lamphun province. During interrogation, both men confessed they were paid 50,000 baht to transport the drugs via courier using the longan shipment as cover. This was their second such operation. Police have filed charges against both suspects and are investigating further to identify those who hired them.
