On September 21, 2025, senior police officials announced the arrest of Thanawat, 22, and Prachaya, 27, in connection with a major drug trafficking operation. Officers stopped the white tractor-trailer with a red shipping container at a fuel station in Samut Songkhram province on Highway 2 and found 300 kilograms of methamphetamine packed in 15 sacks. The suspects confessed that they were hired by agents to collect drugs from northeastern Thailand and deliver them to agents in the south, earning 100,000 baht per trip and completing two runs before their arrest. Police also seized 46,300 baht in cash, two gold chains, three mobile phones, and the truck, with total assets valued at 70 million baht.
Deputy Police Chief Samran Nulamaa stated that the investigation revealed a transnational smuggling network using Thailand as a transit route to export methamphetamine to Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Korea. He noted that police have coordinated with Malaysian and Myanmar authorities on drug interdiction efforts and have arrested nine additional suspects in Myanmar who are being extradited. The initial charges are for drug trafficking of a Class 1 controlled substance (ice or methamphetamine) without authorization for commercial purposes, with aggravated circumstances affecting national security and public safety.
Both suspects are in custody and the case has been handed to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for further prosecution. Police are continuing to investigate and pursue the main organizers of the smuggling ring.
