Police Seize 500 Million Baht Ice Haul Hidden in Truck
Police seized 500 kilograms of methamphetamine worth 500 million baht hidden in a truck at a Phrae checkpoint on September 16, with two suspects from Kalasin arrested.
On September 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., Phrae Governor Somchai Lertprasettipan, Phrae Provincial Police Commander Pongdech Kamjaisoo, and Huai Rai Police Station Commander Tattep Chotidechochai announced the seizure of a major methamphetamine shipment consisting of 20 sacks of ice weighing 500 kilograms, valued at approximately 500 million baht. The drugs were found in a blue Isuzu truck registered in Kalasin Province.
The arrest resulted from intelligence indicating that a drug trafficking network was attempting to smuggle the large shipment from Chiang Rai Province into central Thailand by concealing it in a truck. On September 16, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., officers at the Huai Rai drug checkpoint in Denchai District, Phrae, spotted the blue Isuzu truck and conducted an X-ray inspection, which revealed the methamphetamine hidden in 20 sacks with used car parts used as concealment.
Two suspects were apprehended: Akkhachok, age 57, and Kanha, age 40, both from Sahasakhant District, Kalasin Province. A gray Nissan pickup truck registered in Nakhon Phanom was also seized. The suspects have been handed over to Huai Rai Police Station for legal proceedings. Authorities are expanding the investigation to identify the wider network and associated individuals, and will pursue asset seizure and forfeiture related to the drug operation in coordination with Phrae Provincial forensic evidence units.
