Thailand Urges Franchises to Protect Intellectual Property
1 Aug Khaosod

Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property is warning franchise businesses to urgently register and protect their intellectual property as the sector continues to grow rapidly. According to Department Director Oramont Saupthaweethum, Thailand's franchise business is worth over 300,000 billion baht and is a popular expansion model for entrepreneurs seeking to grow their brands quickly. However, franchising involves more than just licensing a business name or opening branches—it requires proper protection of trademarks, production formulas, management systems, and business knowledge that form the core value and competitive advantage of the business. Without proper protection and management, businesses risk counterfeit operations, unauthorized use of rights, and future disputes.

Proper intellectual property management strengthens brand value, builds confidence among franchisees and investors, and ensures standardized expansion. Before launching a franchise system, businesses should prepare in six key areas: (1) Check for name and trademark similarity using AI Image Search and Trademark Checker tools on the Department's website to reduce the risk of infringing others' marks; (2) Register trademarks for legal protection—the Department now offers fast-track service for businesses that need urgent protection; (3) Register trademark license agreements to clarify the rights and obligations of both parties; (4) Draft franchise agreements that clearly define rights, duties, and conditions; (5) Register patents or utility patents if the business has developed innovations, products, or manufacturing processes; and (6) Establish trade secret protection measures to prevent unauthorized use of business knowledge.

The Department is ready to advise and support businesses of all sizes, particularly SMEs, in leveraging intellectual property as a tool for value creation and competitive advantage. Entrepreneurs can request free intellectual property consulting through the IP Consulting Center (IPAC) at the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce, or call the hotline 1368 for guidance on protecting, utilizing, and managing intellectual property.

Minister Orders Full Veterinary Care for Orphaned Baby Elephant
1 Aug Khaosod

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchat Chomklin expressed concern on August 1, 2025, over park officials' efforts to rescue a lost baby elephant discovered in poor condition with multiple injuries in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. He praised staff members who worked through difficult weather and strong currents, and ordered a full mobilization of park veterinarians to closely monitor and treat the animal around the clock for its safety.

"I have been informed about the lost baby elephant and am deeply concerned about its condition, given how young and critical its state is," said Suchat. "I want to thank all officials and veterinary teams who have sacrificed so much, braving rain and currents to help. I have also ordered the Department of National Parks to assemble expert veterinarians to provide comprehensive care at every stage, so the calf recovers safely and quickly."

According to Arthapol Charoenchansai, Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, park rangers at Khao Sam Roi Yot Substation 5 received a report on July 30 at 6 a.m. from residents of Mae Nam Noi village in Kanchanaburi province. Rangers accessed the remote riverside area by boat, a journey of 1–2 hours.

They found one lost baby elephant in poor condition with no herd nearby, believed abandoned for approximately two days. The calf called for its mother throughout the night, but no response came from the herd, suggesting they had moved far away. The terrain was steep with only 1.5 meters of level ground; the elephant was just 30 centimeters from the riverbank and appeared to be eating roots and rocks nearby. Officials suspect the herd crossed the river and the current swept the calf downstream.

Heavy rain over two days raised water levels in the stream, creating additional danger. Staff provided milk under guidance from veterinarians at Substation 3 (Ban Pong) to prevent starvation.

On July 31 at 9 a.m., veterinary teams from Substation 3 and its Phetchaburi branch arrived to assess the elephant. The boat journey to the site takes 1–2 hours, and continuous rain increased flood risk.

Veterinarians determined the animal is a male calf weighing approximately 40 kilograms, no older than two weeks. It suffers from severe dehydration, blistered and cracked skin, multiple mouth ulcers, heat rash-like injuries, and umbilical and groin wounds with dead tissue and no maggots. A dime-sized heat ulcer in its mouth makes nursing painful. Bee-like insects around its eyes cause inflammation.

Four Suspects Held in Chonburi Killing of Five Family Members

Four suspects arrested in connection with the killing of five family members in Chonburi appeared in court on August 1, with one suspect's aunt confirming he committed the crimes within two months of his prison release.

Four Suspects Held in Chonburi Killing of Five Family Members
1 Aug Khaosod

On August 1, 2025, at Huai Yai Police Station in Chonburi province, police took control of Tanaa "Pong" Keuttong, Thongchai "Thong" Srinit, and two other suspects known as "Fluke" and "Ball" to proceed with detention orders to court. They face murder charges in a shocking case that has claimed five lives. After an overnight interrogation, officers completed background checks, fingerprinting, and prepared detention request documents. All suspects appeared tense and refused to answer media questions about their motives.

Before being taken to court, Pong's aunt—his guardian since childhood—visited with food and water. She revealed that although she still loves her nephew as a family member, she cannot condone his actions. She stated she will accept whatever sentence the court imposes and will not seek bail due to lack of collateral and fear that his release could lead to further crimes.

The aunt further disclosed that Pong had intended to rebuild his life and support his family after his previous release from prison, but committed these heinous crimes in less than two months. She expressed profound sadness and disappointment with the family's situation. She also denied knowledge of police uniforms or equipment found in the house and claimed she does not know who orchestrated the crimes.

Thai Football Lacks World Cup Hope, Says Legend Coach Heng

Veteran Thai football coach Heng Vithaya Lauhaokul says Thailand lacks the structural development and youth training framework needed to compete for World Cup qualification, citing insufficient adherence to international standards.

Thai Football Lacks World Cup Hope, Says Legend Coach Heng
1 Aug Khaosod

Coach Heng Vithaya Lauhaokul, a 72-year-old Thai football legend, shared his views on the Thai national team's prospects for the World Cup during an interview with YouTube channel GoodDayPodcast. In the "Gossip Goal" episode titled "Why Thailand's First Bundesliga Player Says Thai Football Has No Structure," Coach Heng recounted his playing career from childhood through his time in Japan and Germany, as well as his encounters with world-class players.

When asked about Thailand's chances of reaching the World Cup, Coach Heng stated: "Other countries develop much faster than us. Looking nearby at Singapore and Vietnam—Vietnam has world-class training facilities." He added: "We keep saying we've surpassed ASEAN, but we haven't surpassed anything. We're still stuck in place. Surpassing means we need a proper youth development structure according to AFC standards. Even clubs with Thai League licenses—many just make things up. There's nothing in place."

Coach Heng emphasized that direction and leadership are crucial, citing Spanish former technical director Carles Romegaza, who established what he called the "Thai Football Iceberg"—a comprehensive framework aligned with international standards. "I don't see anyone using it," Coach Heng said. "He created something massive. Everything was correct by international standards, but we didn't follow through. By now, that iceberg has completely melted."

When asked whether an expanded World Cup format with 64 teams and a co-hosting quota could help Thailand qualify, Coach Heng answered firmly: "No. If Thailand were to host, there would be many requirements—stadiums have specific regulations." When asked if Rajamangala or Suphachalasai stadiums would meet standards, he replied: "Neither passes. It's not just about stadiums. There are other details—accommodations, hotels, training grounds. Where would we put everything?"

Regarding youth football competitiveness against countries like Japan and South Korea, the 72-year-old responded: "No. It comes down to learning capacity. Thai children lack this. If we teach them, we need to question them first, but they don't understand and are afraid. Football requires three things: effort, courage, and character. Thai children don't have these."

Woman Exposes Suspect's Abuse, Threats, and Murder Confessions

Woman Exposes Suspect's Abuse, Threats, and Murder Confessions
1 Aug Khaosod

A popular Facebook page has published a chat conversation between a woman and a suspect named Por, revealing alleged dangerous behavior including forcing her to watch murder videos and threatening to bury her alive. The woman claims she suffered prolonged physical abuse, intimidation, and control during their relationship.

The case involves suspects Por and Thang, who confessed to murdering two Russian siblings and burying their bodies. They later admitted to killing a family of three in June and burying them near the Russian victims' burial site.

One woman who previously dated Por has come forward, providing chats and police reports to substantiate her claims. She alleges that throughout their time together, Por controlled, threatened, and physically assaulted her repeatedly, leaving her in constant fear for her safety.

According to her account, Por was obsessed with violence, forcing her to watch murder case videos and simulations of violence. He also allegedly recounted to her stories of killings and body disposal—murders beyond the two cases reported in the news.

The most traumatic incident she recalls is when Por dug a hole, forced her to lie in it, and threatened to bury her alive like his other victims. She says she cried, begged for her life, and pleaded with him for a long time before he released her. After that day, she remained threatened and intimidated but was too afraid to speak out, fearing no one would believe her and that she would not be safe.

She has now filed a formal police report with evidence and stated she is ready to cooperate fully with investigators and serve as a witness if needed to help with the investigation in Chon Buri province and nearby areas.
