The Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with network partners, advanced the 63rd "Burn for Better: Burn Today for a Better Tomorrow" operation, destroying 93,092 kilograms of seized narcotics from 48,320 cases. The haul consisted mainly of methamphetamine pills (yaba), crystal meth (ice), ketamine, sibutramine, heroin, and other substances. The process was conducted transparently with verification at every step to protect Thai youth and society from drugs. The incineration took place at the Bang Pu Industrial Waste Management Center (hazardous waste incinerator) in Samut Prakan Province, operated by Akkhie Prakarn Public Company Limited. Narin Kalayanamitr, Advisor to the Minister of Public Health, presided over the ceremony, joined by FDA Secretary-General Supatra Boonserm and representatives from partner agencies including the Ministry of Interior, Royal Thai Police, Royal Thai Air Force, Royal Thai Navy, Royal Thai Army, Office of the Narcotics Control Board, Office of the Attorney General, Customs Department, Public Relations Department, and Department of Industrial Works, who served as witnesses.
Narin stated that the Ministry of Public Health, as the agency responsible for storing and managing the nation's seized narcotics, has integrated with network partners to continuously destroy drugs. This 63rd event, under the "Burn for Better" concept, aims to break the drug cycle and prevent substances from returning to harm society, demonstrating commitment to protecting citizens from drug threats through correct, transparent, and verifiable destruction.
Supatra detailed that the destroyed narcotics came from 48,320 cases, totaling 93,092 kilograms in gross weight, with 74,460 kilograms of actual drug content. The largest portion was methamphetamine (yaba) at over 48,172 kilograms, followed by crystal meth (ice) at over 20,934 kilograms, ketamine at over 2,683 kilograms, sibutramine at over 1,700 kilograms, and heroin at over 635 kilograms. Incineration used a hazardous waste incinerator fueled by natural gas with pollution control systems to prevent environmental impact. The facility includes a Rotary Kiln operating above 850°C and a secondary combustion chamber above 1,200°C, ensuring over 99.99% destruction of hazardous organic compounds. The burn runs continuously for six days from October 27 to November 1, 2026, with inspections every three hours.
