FDA to Destroy 93 Tons of Seized Narcotics on Oct 27

The FDA is preparing to destroy 93 tons of narcotics from 48,320 cases, with methamphetamine accounting for the largest share at over 48 tons, on October 27 under the concept "BURN FOR BETTER: Burn Today for a Better Tomorrow."

On October 22, 2026, FDA Secretary-General Supatra Boonserm revealed that the FDA is tasked with storing seized narcotics pending legal destruction. Before incineration, the evidence must undergo verification and authentication processes.

Today (October 22, 2026), the FDA collaborated with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Medical Sciences, the Royal Thai Army, and other relevant agencies to inspect and verify the seized narcotics before the 63rd destruction ceremony scheduled for October 27, 2026, at Akkhaprakarn Public Company Limited in Samut Prakan. Narin Kalayanamitr, Advisor to the Minister of Public Health, presided over the ceremony.

Supatra stated that the total weight of seized narcotics in this batch exceeds 93 tons (including packaging) from 48,320 cases. Methamphetamine (yaba) is the most prevalent at over 48 tons, followed by crystal meth (ice), ketamine, heroin, and other narcotics. Officials will verify case numbers, drug types, and weights against evidence records.

Random samples will be analyzed by the Department of Medical Sciences to confirm substance identity before destruction. This inter-agency cooperation ensures that seized evidence is destroyed correctly and completely according to established procedures.

The verified narcotics will be incinerated on October 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Akkhaprakarn Public Company Limited in Samut Prakan, under the "BURN FOR BETTER" concept, with representatives from government agencies, embassies, and media serving as witnesses.
