Cabinet Approves 8,500-Rai Land Survey for Irrigation Development
The Cabinet approved surveying 8,500 rai in Kalasin and Phetchaburi for agricultural land reform to boost irrigation and farmer water access.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Phatthararat Thongsaluak revealed that the Cabinet meeting approved in principle two draft royal decrees on land survey areas for agricultural land reform, as proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The first covers approximately 4,030 rai in Kamalasai, Lak Mueang, Chao Tha, and Dong Ling subdistricts in Kamalasai district, Kalasin province. The second covers approximately 4,512 rai in Nong Kapu and Huai Khong subdistricts in Ban Lat district, Phetchaburi province, totaling approximately 8,542 rai.
The designation follows the Agricultural Land Reform Act B.E. 2558 to identify areas for survey and preparation for land reform projects. Officials will inspect the areas and consider utilizing state-owned land within the survey zones for land reform in accordance with the law.
Agricultural land reform aims to develop areas suitable for cultivation, improve water delivery and drainage systems, and enhance farm-level transportation to give farmers better access to water and land management. It also promotes integrated farming, increases production and marketing efficiency, reduces costs and occupational risks, and supports farmer groups in jointly managing water and agricultural land to increase long-term income and strengthen the agricultural sector.
For next steps, the Cabinet approved the principles of both draft royal decrees and ordered them forwarded to the Office of the Council of State for review.
