Police Drive Drunk Youths Home After False Accident Report
Lopburi police responding to a reported accident found two drunk youths asleep on the roadside instead of crash victims. Officers woke the pair, secured their belongings, and drove them and their motorcycle home safely. The incident highlights the police's role in preventing drunk driving by ensuring intoxicated individuals get home without driving.
Around 3:30 a.m. on October 31, Tha Hin Police Station in Muang District, Lopburi, received a call from a citizen reporting an accident with multiple injuries near the railway station. A patrol unit arrived within three minutes, but the scene turned out to be two young men lying asleep on the footpath, appearing seriously hurt. One had removed his shoes; one lay with his head on the curb, the other with his head toward the field. Police spent considerable time waking and questioning the heavily intoxicated pair, who were barely coherent. Officers provided cold water and towels, secured their valuables, and eventually got an address from one youth named 'Kan.' The police then drove both youths and their motorcycle to their lodging, ensuring they arrived safely with all belongings. The station chief, Pol. Lt. Col. Thatchawut Saiyotha, said the patrol was on routine duty when the call came in. He emphasized the policy: 'Don't drive drunk; rest until sober.' The officers' actions helped prevent a potential accident and ensured safety for everyone.
