Chaiyachon Meets with Meta to Address Indecent Live-Streaming, Plans Prevention and Legal Action Against Offenders
Thai authorities met with Meta officials to crack down on indecent live-streaming, warning that platforms distributing such content face criminal penalties of up to five years imprisonment and 100,000 baht fines.
On May 25, 2569, Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob held a joint meeting with Clara Go, Director of Public Policy for Meta (Facebook's parent company) for Central Southeast Asia & ASEAN, along with Dr. Chaiyana Mitarphand, Director of the Electronic Transactions Development Office, Deputy Commander Niwet Aphavaporn of the Technology Crime Investigation Division, and Commander Chanannut Sathvaleyphet of the Technology Crime Suppression Division to establish prevention and enforcement measures against illegal activities on social media platforms, specifically addressing indecent live-streaming. Over the past two days, authorities discovered continuous indecent live-streams lasting multiple hours that have become a trending social issue. The government reiterated that platforms distributing and sharing such content face criminal liability under the Computer Crime Law, with penalties of up to five years imprisonment and/or fines not exceeding 100,000 baht. The offense encompasses all parties involved, including those who like, share, or comment on the content. Following the meeting, Minister Chaiyachon will hold a press conference to brief the public on further actions against the platform.
