Thailand Warns Against Sharing Personal Data Online
Thailand's Digital Economy Ministry is warning the public against sharing personal data on social media, which scammers use to commit cybercrimes, with violations punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment or 100,000-baht fines under the Comp
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) has warned the public about sharing personal and illegal information on social media, which scammers exploit to commit cybercrimes. According to Digital Economy Minister Chaiyachon Chidchop's policy on preventing and suppressing online crime, the ministry is tasked with monitoring and preventing illegal data sharing, and will take immediate legal action upon discovery of violations.
In response to unauthorized personal data disclosures on social media, the DE has instructed the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) to investigate such cases in coordination with the National Cyber Security Committee (NCSC). The ministry has also filed complaints with the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) for prosecution under the Computer Act.
"The DE warns the public that publishing illegal information on social media violates the Computer Act, Section 14, which covers uploading false or distorted data, uploading information that threatens national security, economic stability, or causes public alarm," the statement said. Penalties include imprisonment of up to 5 years, fines up to 100,000 baht, or both.
