Chedi Collapses at Chiang Mai Temple After Heavy Rains
The chedi top at Wat Mai Nong Hoi in Chiang Mai's Doi Lo district collapsed on Nov. 3, likely due to heavy rains softening the soil; agencies are investigating and planning restoration.
On November 3, the top of the chedi at Wat Mai Nong Hoi in Doi Lo district, Chiang Mai, broke off and fell, sustaining damage. Recently, Wathana Sakhon, head of the Chiang Mai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, revealed that the Hod district DDPM, Doi Lo district office, Office of Buddhism, Fine Arts Department, Territorial Defense, Santi Suk Subdistrict Municipality, and administration officials jointly inspected the damaged chedi. Agencies will investigate the cause and expedite restoration to its original condition per community faith, ensuring strength and safety. The preliminary cause is suspected to be heavy rain the previous night, causing water accumulation inside the chedi for a long time, softening the soil and leading to the collapse.
