Chiang Mai Police Unveil 360° Floating Watchtower for Public Safety
Chiang Mai’s Chang Phueak Police Station unveiled a new floating watchtower that offers a 360-degree view for surveillance. Developed by officers after studying similar systems abroad, the Police Tower helps monitor risk areas and coordinate rapid responses. It has already been used to ensure safety at the Freedom 250 American Fair Chiang Mai 2026.
The Chang Phueak Police Station in Chiang Mai posted images of its floating watchtower on October 17, 2026, showing a 360-degree view to help officers observe surroundings and watch for danger points. The idea came from overseas study trips by Pol. Lt. Col. Phachon Phayakha, deputy inspector of the station, who saw the use of mobile observation towers in security missions abroad and brought the concept back to Thailand. Together with Pol. Lt. Col. Thanat Patpao of the Suppression and Prevention Unit and other team members, they developed the concept into what they call the Police Tower or floating surveillance post (Public Safety Watch). From a high vantage point, the tower provides full 360-degree coverage, enabling personnel to get an overall picture, monitor risk spots, and quickly coordinate ground units to investigate or stop incidents. The tower has already been deployed to oversee safety at the Freedom 250 American Fair Chiang Mai 2026 held at the Chiang Mai Provincial Administration Organization public park, allowing visitors and tourists to enjoy the event with peace of mind.
