Commerce Ministry Opens 20 Flood Relief Discount Points Across Bangkok
The Ministry of Commerce has set up 20 discount points across Bangkok selling essential goods at up to 62% off to help flood‑affected residents recover. The initiative, part of the ‘Thai Helps Thai, Sky Flag Against Flood’ program, runs from October 9‑18 and will be expanded nationwide with over 3,000 similar events planned.
The Ministry of Commerce opened the ‘Thai Helps Thai, Sky Flag Against Flood’ initiative with 20 discount points across Bangkok to help flood‑affected residents rebuild their homes, offering products at discounts of up to 62%. Wattanasak Suea-iam, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, disclosed after inspecting sales at the project in the Lat Krabang rental‑building complex on October 10, 2026, that Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supajee Suthamphan is concerned about people impacted by floods, especially where water levels are dropping and residents are returning home, necessitating affordable consumer goods and cleaning equipment.
The department coordinated with manufacturers, businesses and the private sector to sell essential items at low prices in communities, easing the financial burden during post‑flood recovery. In Bangkok, mobile trucks distribute food, household goods and cleaning supplies; two locations are set up each day, totaling 20 points between October 9 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., allowing residents to shop near home and reduce travel and rehabilitation costs.
The selection includes about 30 items in ten categories, ranging from food and daily necessities to cleaning tools. Examples of discounted products: jasmine rice 5 kg for 120 baht (down 37%), medium‑size eggs 30 pcs for 110 baht (down 21% from 140 baht), granulated sugar 1 kg for 22 baht (down 19%), and palm oil 1 litre for 42 baht (down 16%). Direct‑from‑manufacturer goods offer discounts up to 58% on daily‑use items, 44% on personal‑care products, 51% on laundry supplies and 42% on food, while cleaning equipment such as floor scrubs, mops and brooms are discounted up to 62%.
National Housing Authority Governor Thaveephong Wichaidith thanked the Ministry for bringing affordable goods to its communities, noting the cooperation began while waters were still high to prepare for distribution, greatly alleviating hardship and costs in post‑flood housing recovery.
Wattanasak added that, besides aiding flood‑hit areas, the Department will expand the low‑price sales under the ‘Thai Helps Thai, Cost‑of‑Living Relief’ pilot project for three months from October to December 2026, aiming for 3,036 events nationwide—300 in Bangkok and 2,736 across the other 76 provinces—starting October 16, to keep providing steady access to essentials at low prices, focused on community venues for convenience.
The Department has coordinated with producers, wholesalers and retailers to ensure sufficient stock and is monitoring prices closely to prevent opportunistic price hikes. Citizens can check dates, times and locations of the sales online.
