Thailand's Community Development Department opened a major 'Regional OTOP Nan Province' event showcasing 300 booths of local products and crafts to boost grassroots economies across the country. The seven-day event features business network

27 Apr Khaosod

The Community Development Department under the Ministry of Interior held a grand opening of 'Regional OTOP Nan Province' for fiscal year 2569 under the theme 'Our Local Colors: Tales of Community Wisdom,' featuring 300 quality booths designed to stimulate grassroots economic development and strengthen local economies.

Siam Sirimongkol, Director-General of the Community Development Department, presided over the ceremony alongside Chainnarong Wongyang, Governor of Nan Province, and other senior officials to collectively promote regional marketing channels and sustainably increase community incomes. The event implements Thailand's One Tambon One Product (OTOP) initiative, emphasizing grassroots economic development through a 'marketing leads production' concept to increase sales channels and allow local people to learn innovations and product models from other regions to improve their own product quality.

The Nan Province event marks the third of six nationwide OTOP Regional events, including those in Kalasin, Rayong, Nan, Chachoengsao, Phatthalung, and Loei provinces.

Siam Sirimongkol stated that 'OTOP Regional events are crucial mechanisms for driving sustainable grassroots economy growth. We not only showcase products but also present the 'stories' and 'wisdom' of each locality to add value. This Nan event aims to create networks between producers and consumers, including Business Matching opportunities for OTOP entrepreneurs to grow internationally, directly creating jobs, livelihoods, and returning income to communities.'

The event runs for seven days until April 30, 2569 at Nong Nam Khrok field, featuring over 300 booths from 73 provinces displaying one to five-star OTOP products and food items including textiles, apparel, food, beverages, decorative items, and herbal products. Highlights include local wisdom demonstrations, Business Matching sessions, cultural performances, and concerts by renowned artists throughout the event.

The public and tourists are invited to support Thai community wisdom products at the 'Regional OTOP Nan Province' event from now until April 30, 2569 at Nong Nam Khrok field, Muang Tung Subdistrict, Phusai District, Nan Province.

Young Man on Motorcycle Arrested After Shooting Teacher to Death; Admits to Using 6 Methamphetamine Pills

A young motorcyclist arrested for fatally shooting a teacher in Ayutthaya admitted to using methamphetamine before the attack; authorities are investigating how he obtained a registered handgun belonging to a retired police officer.

27 Apr Khaosod

In the latest developments of the case involving a deranged man who fired a gun at civilians on a road in Lad Bua Luang District, Ayutthaya Province, Theeramethi Thepwichaisil, District Chief of Lad Bua Luang, revealed on April 27, 2569 that the weapon used was a 9mm CZ handgun, properly registered since 2551 to a retired police officer with the rank of Sub-Lieutenant. The license was issued by Ubon Ratchathani District Office, and the firearm was purchased through a police welfare program.

However, investigators discovered that the name of the registered owner does not match the suspect in this case, leading authorities to believe this is a "registered gun in the wrong hands." Officials are currently investigating how the weapon ended up with the shooter. The Lad Bua Luang District Office will coordinate with Ubon Ratchathani District Office to verify the status of the firearm with the legitimate registered owner. If the gun is still accounted for, someone may have used false registration, but if it's missing, authorities will check whether it was properly reported as lost.

During interrogation, the suspect initially gave confused statements but eventually admitted to traveling from Pathum Thani Province to find his girlfriend in Suphan Buri Province. He confessed to consuming 6 methamphetamine pills before the incident, with an additional 3 pills found on his person. As a lawyer must be present during interrogation due to the severity of potential charges—including capital punishment—and no relatives have visited the suspect since his detention, police are maintaining close supervision.

Investigators confirmed they have sufficient evidence including witness testimony, circumstantial evidence, and forensic evidence to proceed with prosecution. The plan for a confession statement is still under security assessment.

Village Chief Charged with Two Counts for Assaulting 28-Year-Old Man; Victim's Mother Seeks Justice, Requests Time to Quit Methamphetamine

A village chief in Phatthalung Province faces assault charges after brutally beating a 28-year-old man and tying him to a tree, claiming he caught him stealing beetles. The victim's mother fears the chief's influence will undermine justice

27 Apr Khaosod

Police have charged a village chief from Sri Nakharin District, Phatthalung Province, with two offenses: trespassing and assault. The incident occurred when the chief forcibly removed 28-year-old Suthep from his home while he was sleeping, handcuffed him from behind, tied him to a mango tree in front of the house, struck him in the face twice until his eyes were bruised, kicked him once more, and then placed fire ants on his head and body. The chief claimed to have CCTV footage showing Suthep stealing beetles from local residents, which caused injury.

On April 27, 2025, Suthep's 49-year-old mother filed a complaint with Sri Nakharin Police Station. Investigators charged the chief with trespassing and assault. The mother expressed concern about receiving fair treatment in the case, noting that the chief is an influential figure who may intimidate the victim, and requested additional charges be filed to reflect the severity of his actions.

Family members acknowledged that Suthep has a history of theft and drug use, but argued that the chief's punishment was excessive and that such matters should be handled by police, not vigilante justice. Suthep stated he would reform himself and requested one month to quit methamphetamine use, after which he plans to move to Songkhla Province to live with his father. The family vowed to pursue the case to its full extent despite attempts by the chief's representatives to settle the matter.

27 Apr Khaosod

The Royal Thai Navy announced on April 27, 2569, through spokesman Pol. Capt. Paratcha Rattanaichaiphand that it is acquiring additional AWAV 8×8 amphibious armored vehicles from Chai Seri Metal and Rubber Company Limited to enhance naval capabilities and strengthen eastern border security in response to current threats and new security challenges, while supporting emergency response missions.

The AWAV 8×8 vehicles are designed by Thai engineering teams and produced domestically using equipment and machinery made in Thailand. They incorporate at least 40 percent locally-sourced materials, demonstrating Thailand's defense industry capabilities while reducing foreign import dependence and ensuring long-term industrial security.

The 8×8 all-terrain vehicles offer high mobility and can operate across all terrain types, effectively supporting operations with navy landing platform dock (LPD) vessels. They meet international ballistic and blast protection standards according to STANAG criteria and are equipped with machine guns, control systems, and communications systems fully integrated with the Thai Navy's military communications network. The vehicles also comply with MIL-STD environmental durability standards for effective operation in all combat environments, both maritime and terrestrial.

The Royal Thai Navy has already deployed seven AWAV vehicles with proven operational efficiency and high combat readiness, performing missions effectively according to unit requirements. The additional procurement will provide sufficient capability for force organization and future operational plans.

The expanded AWAV acquisition not only elevates the Royal Thai Navy's operational capabilities but also advances Thailand's defense industry development policy and builds Thai personnel expertise for long-term self-reliance, contributing to national security in both military and economic dimensions.
