The Cope: Liverpool Eyes Arne Slot Replacement as Bournemouth's Enzo Maresca Emerges as Top Candidate
21 May Khaosod

Reports indicate Liverpool is considering Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth's manager, as a potential replacement for Arne Slot should the club decide to remove the Dutch coach from his position. Slot has faced heavy criticism in his second season managing Liverpool, as the team has delivered disappointing results and failed to win any major trophy, while still battling to secure a UEFA Champions League quota spot despite currently sitting fifth in the Premier League. Earlier, rumors circulated that Liverpool's board had decided to sack Slot at the end of this season, despite previously backing the manager. According to the latest report from Foot Mercato, Liverpool's leadership has not ruled out dismissing Slot and is considering Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth's manager, who is expected to leave his club at the end of the season, as a potential replacement. The report further states that Richard Hughes, Liverpool's football director, has begun contact with Iraola, whom he knows well from their time working together at Bournemouth, and is keen to collaborate with the Spanish manager once again. However, James Pearce from The Athletic has stated that rumors regarding Slot's dismissal are unfounded and that the manager's status with the club remains unchanged.

Breaking! Administrative Officials Raid Gambling Den in Samut Prakan, Seize Over 7 Million Baht in Cash and Chips
21 May Khaosod

At 7:30 PM on May 21, 2569, Interior Department officials launched Operation 'Close the Mouth of the River Game' to dismantle a floating gambling den on the 4th floor of a dilapidated hotel on Suk Sawat Soi 80, Mueang Phra Samut Chedi district, Samut Prakan province. The raid followed public reports of illegal gambling to the Department of Interior. After investigation and notification to the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, special operations units coordinated with volunteer territorial defense members to plan the arrest. Undercover officers posed as gamblers, and when they signaled, officials raided the operation. Some gamblers panicked and attempted to escape by climbing through windows to other rooms, but all were apprehended.

Authorities discovered illegal gambling activities with one large table featuring a dice game and a hi-lo game. In total, 63 people were arrested: 13 operators and 50 gamblers (40 male, 23 female, including 3 foreign nationals). Seized items included hi-lo and dice gambling equipment, 926,800 baht in cash, 6,934,800 baht in chips, and records showing daily circulation of over 43 million baht. Officers also found a 9mm pistol loaded with 14 rounds and additional ammunition (.38 caliber, 9mm, and shotgun shells) in the hotel office. The hotel, operated by a former local politician from Samut Prakan, lacked a business license that had expired over a decade ago. All suspects and seized items were brought to Mueang Phra Samut Chedi District Office for initial processing and transferred to Phra Samut Chedi Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Spanish Media Reports World Cup Plan to Expand Final Tournament to 66 Teams

FIFA is considering expanding the 2030 World Cup to 66 teams, up from the 48-team format debuting in 2026, to increase opportunities for nations rarely qualifying for football's biggest tournament.

Spanish Media Reports World Cup Plan to Expand Final Tournament to 66 Teams
21 May Khaosod

Spanish media outlet AS reports that a proposal to expand the World Cup from 48 to 66 teams has returned to FIFA's agenda once again. FIFA recently expanded the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams for the 2026 tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico next month. However, Spanish media has revealed a proposal to further increase teams to 66 for the 2030 World Cup, which Spain, Morocco, and Portugal will co-host. This proposal emerged several months ago after CONMEBOL, South America's football confederation, sought to expand opportunities and make it easier for nations that have rarely appeared at the highest level of football to compete. The 2026 World Cup showcases examples of nations participating for the first time following the team expansion, including Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan. Reports indicate the concept is gaining traction within FIFA's offices and among various football confederations as a way to celebrate the World Cup more broadly with greater national participation.
