Court Sentences Insurgents to Life for Gas Station Arson

The Narathiwat Provincial Court has sentenced members of an armed group to life imprisonment for bombing and burning a gas station in Narathiwat province, though the lead defendant received a reduced sentence of 36 years and 12 months after confessing. On January 11, the group carried out a coordinated attack involving explosives and arson at a service station in Ban Khok, Jawaab subdistrict, Cho-airong district, causing property damage and alarming local residents. Officers conducted an investigation and arrested the suspect identified as Mr. Maeso and two accomplices on January 13. In case number Dor.500/69 at Narathiwat Provincial Court, the defendants were convicted of terrorism, banditry, and illegal possession of military weapons. The court sentenced Mr. Maeso (defendant 1) to life imprisonment, reduced to 36 years and 12 months due to his confession. Defendants 2 and 3, who denied the charges, were ordered to face retrial and remain in custody.
